Babel

The Lord said, “If they have begun to do this as one people all having the same language, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let’s go down there and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” (Genesis 11:6-7 CSB)

God realized early on that He had made man very ingenious and this ingenuity needed to be curbed for our own good. I think we see much of this today in the rampant growth of technology and both the impact of man working together and the impact of mankind working against itself.

Left alone we are our best friend and our worst enemy.

If we consider that God felt the need to confuse language so early on due to our sinful behavior, think of what we could have done as a global society. I hazard to think that, unified for the good of mankind, we would have solved most health issues. We would have solved issues of hunger, loneliness and most if not all of that which confounds us today.

But we failed early on. With Adam our sinful nature was cast and we have gone on to reach deeply into the depravity of the human mind and nature. It saddens me to think of what was possible and what we have become.

Can we not, at least as believers, come together for the good of one another and mankind?
