4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4 KJV)
We ended yesterday with the idea that “Yea, though” we may walk through difficult times, God is with us. This is most important as we look deeper into this single verse from the Lords Prayer.
“I walk though” – we need to focus upon the action here. This does not say that we break down, sit down or fall down. No, it says we walk through. God does not want us so beaten that we cannot move through a situation or circumstance we find our selves in. He desires that we walk on and move through, not get mired down and stand still.
“The valley of the shadow of death” – note here the word shadow. Yes, maybe we are facing the possibility of death from a critical health diagnosis. But God wants us to realize that these are shadows. We will all die sooner or later. The valleys we go through are haunted with shadows. While they may seem to have substance, God is telling us that He is real, and these things are simply shadows in our lives.
“I will fear no evil” – if God is with us, what can man do to us? We must keep our eyes and our minds focused upon God. When we take our eyes off of Him and we see the storm raging around us, like Paul, we begin to sink. We can find a place of strength against our fears when we are fully focused upon God.
Tomorrow we will look at the last of this verse. Remember these things from today – Walk on and fear not the shadows.
