15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15 CSB)
There is a lot out there that wants to get at us each and every day and tear us down. But Christ suffered all of these things as well, but in it He did not sin. With us, there can be any number of sins that come from our weaknesses and temptations.
But because Christ endured these things as well we have someone in our corner who knows what we are going through. It can be easy to become frustrated and jaded thinking that we are alone in our fights in life. But not only is Christ there for us, but He sympathizes with us and wants to help us through our difficulties. He wants us to draw closer to Him, not walk away out of frustration.
Life can throw a lot of petty at us and if we are not strong in our faith and leaning upon God, we can toss a lot of spite back at it. But this is not how we are called to live. We are not to pay the world back for its petty nature, but are called to live above this. Not in a holier-than-thou way, but with humility and sympathy for those who cannot. Those who are struggling with things we have no visibility of and can only see the response to their pain. Those who believe that they can only succeed if others are failing.
We must sympathize as Christ can sympathize.
