⁹ God’s love was revealed among us^[a] in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9 CSB)

How many things have you lived through in your life? I know many who have lived through loss, lived through pain, lived through difficulties and hard life change. Many more who have lived through great joy, wonderful families, loving children and steadfast parents.

Whether joy or pain the operative words here are “lived through”. We came out the other side and went on to see yet another sunrise. As such I say often, “tomorrow the sun will rise, either to shine upon us or to be hidden by clouds”. This is the way of life.

But when we come to faith there is a new way to live. When we live life through Christ our view on the world changes. We are no longer just concerned about the sun coming up tomorrow, because even if it does not we know we have a place reserved for us in heaven.

With this great knowledge, what can anything or anyone on earth do to us. Yes, we may suffer pain but that is just the body. We may fear and be anxious, but that is just the mind. God has our soul in His hands.

So as we live through, we need to consider who we live through.
