31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 CSB)
In a bit of a continuation of yesterdays devotion where we were talking about moving in Christ. Today I want to look at doing everything for the glory of God and what a continual blessing living like this can bring.
It should be an easy transition from making our movements ever mindful of Christ working through us to doing everything for the glory of God. But what, exactly, does that mean?
It would seem that being ever mindful of Christ would presuppose we are doing everything for the glory of God. But we are humans being and that being is more often than not for our own pleasure and edification. Are we doing things for Christ just so people will see us as Godly? Are we doing things in Christ with our minds and hearts continually turned toward God and doing them with only His glory in mind?
That is a tall order but what we have been called to do. We are not called to simply be religious like the Pharisees and Sadducees, calling attention to ourselves more than we are calling to God. No, bringing glory to God is much more. It is a focus on our lives being, as much as possible, a continual blessing to God so that we are showing how He is a continual blessing to us.
When we can live like this, when we can continually call to God’s glory in what we do, we make living not about us but fully about Him. This continual blessing will bring about within us a transformation of character to be more like and closer to Christ.
