Silently Waiting

7 Be silent before the Lord and wait expectantly for him;
do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way,
by the person who carries out evil plans. (Psalms 37:7 CSB)

What is the balance between waiting upon the Lord and pushing our own agenda, our own plans? I will be honest, I do not know the answer to this one. I struggle with it mightily. You could also ask what is the balance between humble acceptance and taking control.

We should never try to wrestle control from God. But how do we know when we should sit back and let Him work and when to take thing into our own hands?

My agenda is rarely the best agenda, but in the same vein I have found that it is easy to become weak when we do not act. It is easy to become stuck in what feels like indifferent limbo and this is never a comfortable place. But there are times when the Lord wants us to be uncomfortable.

Often it is in our comparison between ourselves and others that our own pride gets in the way. This balance between a humble accepting nature and pride is where the majority of our agitation is created. We just must guard against becoming agitated at others as our scripture notes, while we wait.

Being silent and waiting expectantly is not for the faint of heart. It can require a steely resolve to allow things to transpire in God’s time on God’s plan. It is not wrong to ask why, but it is wrong to act without His guidance, and that guidance often comes from our godly friends and family.
