Sanctified

2 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (Genesis 2:3)

There are many things pointed to as being sanctified in the Bible. Two of which are very important in today’s world; Us and the Sabbath.

We, very often, do not give an appropriate gravitas to these two forms of sanctification. Both were set aside to be something more than the day in, day out, or mundane. They are special and should be treated as such. But do we really do either? Do we see ourselves as set aside and do we recognize the Sabbath as holy?

Now we can get into a debate around what day each of us sees as the Sabbath. Some are very legalistic about this in fact. Most denominations see it as Sunday, though some recognize Saturday. Personally, I do not see it as a specific day, even though I try to observe it on Sundays. However, I think it is the idea and the process that God was most concerned about, rather than the specific day. Regardless, it should be a day of rest, reflection and worship. However, we are lucky to give an hour or two to whatever Sabbath we keep in all honesty.

But then again, we treat our selves the same way. We have been sanctified and set aside, yet we live as if we have not been. We do not well realize and even less regard ourselves in this way. Some of that is the byproduct of sin and the enemy convicting and accusing us what little worth we are. We often listen to the father of lies more than the Father of all Truth. We walk through this life belittling ourselves and succumbing to the enemy’s accusations.

God did not mean us to live this way. He meant us to be different and to listen to Him and not the enemy. To not allow our human nature to degrade our view of ourselves so much that we cannot remotely see our worth to His Kingdom.

No, we were set aside as was the Sabbath to be recognized as something more.
