8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
How happy is the person who takes refuge in him! (Psalm 34:8 CSB)
Do you savor your faith? Is it something palatable to your lifestyle? Do you spend regular time supping upon The Word?
We do not really use this type of language today when we speak of our interaction with our faith life, but maybe we should. Eugene H Peterson wrote a very good book I have called “Eat This Book: A Conversation in the Art of Spiritual Reading” This book speaks to how we should be devouring God’s word in a very special way called Lectio Divina, or “Divine Reading”.
One quote I have seen said, “This practice promotes communion with God and increases knowledge in His word.” I would go so far to say that we cannot grow and mature as Christians without regular meals upon The Word that lead us to a greater understanding of God.
How can we hope to be God’s light in this world if we have no taste of Him on our lips? And how can we have this taste regularly there if nothing of Him is not passing our lips on a daily basis (in both reading and prayer).
It is when we are supping upon His Good Word that the last part our scripture comes into play and we find ourselves happily taking refuge in Him daily.
