8 If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9 CSB)
Yesterday we talked about true repentance. But maybe we are having trouble even recognizing our sin. You see, the world does not see all that much as sin today. There is so much that we, as Christians, are called intolerant about that is clearly sin. But because many of these things are “lifestyle choices” it is we who are wrong and antiquated for following scripture.
Thus, true repentance must first recognize true sin.
The Ten Commandments are not properly realized as mere suggestions. They are God’s law, along with many other clearly called out sin’s in scripture. Our lives must be measured by something, and as Christians that something is the Bible. But many want to debate even this. Which Bible? Which version? What sections? Old Testament? New Testament?
People get confused very easily. Know this is our enemy at work sewing seeds of discontent and disagreement.
I have read many different version, revisions and variations of the Bible. Yes, some are truer to the original text than others, you can research which. But, in most cases, the core Biblical truths are there and sin is clearly called out.
We must debate less and accept God’s definition of sin, ask for forgiveness, turn from it and walk forward in faithfulness.
