23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, 24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24 CSB)
I have written a number of times about doing all that we do as service to Christ and not man. This includes our work and our family lives. We do not live for ourselves, although we indulge ourselves quite a lot and I am no stranger to this.
The often asked question is would you do what you do for no reward. No pay, no love, simply for the act of serving others and Christ. I suspect that without a wage attached or some return, many would answer a resounding no. This is because we are fallen men working for fallen men. There will always be some amount of strife here, some amount of struggle
But when we refocus our attention on who we are really doing it for, the money or the love is a byproduct of our efforts. Suddenly, the table is turned and we are working for Christ and our outcomes take on a different meaning. This is where one finds joy in their work. This is where one finds even great joy in family.
This simple shift of perspective and we are no longer doing it for the earthly reward, but doing it for the reward of an inheritance from the Lord.
