16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a]may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)
We need to have a different relationship with scripture. We need to look at it like an instruction book for life and a key part of our training for living that life right.
Far too often scripture is something that the preacher uses each Sunday to preach a sermon from for many Christians. It is a book that sits on a shelf gathering dust and rarely get’s opened. This is so sad, because there is so much to learn in its pages. There is a veritable gold mine of information contained within. Some of that spiritual wealth is simply lying along the path of our reading. Other nuggets require a little digging, but the deepest and purest veins of gold lay in our repetitive study and the archaeological like uncovering of ages of information. The deeper we go the more we find.
This is why the same scripture can lead us to many different conclusions, depending upon the stages of our lives. Continual rereading of scripture brings out deeper and deeper meanings and learnings for us to leverage in our lives. A perfunctory pass will not do.
Much like many of life’s lessons, as we age they gain a greater appreciation for what we learn.
