16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.[a] (James 5:16 ESV)
Prayer is a great divider among people. I know people who are great prayer warriors, who are really skilled at praying the right thing at the right time. I often feel like I stumble through prayer, maybe you do as well.
Luckily, we have a God who does not look for us to be eloquent in prayer. He looks for us to be honest and humble in prayer. He knows our needs before we utter or think a word of a prayer. Still, it is good for the heart, mind and soul to pray fervently.
When we do not know what to pray it is ok for us to just sit quietly with God. Looking for the Spirit to intercede for us, as this is one of His roles in our life. There are times when we just do not have the words and this is where scripture says that the Holy Spirit intercedes with groaning which God knows as prayer.
Christ provided us the avenue through His blood on the cross. We now must afford ourselves of that gift and fall upon the mercy of God in our prayers. It is true, sometimes our prayers can be more like talking to an old friend. I think this is when Christ comes closest and allows us to lean upon Him so that we can simply feel the love of a friend.
It is important that we too pray for one another as our prayers afford us much and can have great power, even when we do not know what to pray. Our family, friends and co-workers need our prayers and we need to remember them in our prayers so that God comes alongside each of them.
There can be great power in our prayers.
