Surpassing Value

8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, (Philippians 3:8)

What can you think of that you would consider having surpassing value? Take a moment and really think about that.

You might have thought of your family, or a highly valued friend. Maybe there is something you possess that is a family heirloom. Something that has surpassing value is something that we value beyond the monetary and has a value to our life itself.

There cannot be a value placed upon our salvation and scripture can be said to be of surpassing value. In fact scripture is to be mined, like gold. It is a constant wellspring of value in our lives.

Everything we have is passing away. Everything we have will be either passed on to another or will rust and rot away. None of it, truly, has surpassing value especially when considered in the light of eternity.

Thus, how can we, like Paul, not count everything as loss in the view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord!?
