Weakness

10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10)

I am not good with weakness. In fact I would say I have a complete aversion to it. Part of it is that my father was of a time when men did not show weakness and he instilled that in me. Furthermore, I am a big man and people do not expect to see weakness in big men. You can argue that point with me, but believe me, it is an expectation by most.

But regardless of these things, that is how I am wired. Additionally, we have tag lines about this, ”Never let them see you sweat”, remember that one. Sure, it was a deodorant ad, but the connotation is there.

This world values the strong.

But we are called to live with a different view of weakness. We are called to live in our weakness, ‘cause we all have them, but to be strong through Christ. We are to, through our weakness, show that where our strength comes from is displaying Christ great strength to lead us in and through weakness.

You see, in our weakness, Christ is strong.
