Avoidance

So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

10 And he said, “I heard you[a] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.” (Genesis 3:9-10 CSB)

From the dawn of man we have been making mistakes and then hiding from God. If you read on in this passage, after Adam and Eve hid, they tried to cover up their sin and then blamed others. Just like today, they did not want to take responsibility for the sin they had committed.

It can be said that avoidance is our key go to when it comes to not wanting to take responsibility for something. In fact, avoidance is a tactic we use to get around many things in our lives.

It is like if we do not look at, accept or recognize a thing then it does not exist. We want to make it like we did not commit the sin we so deeply know that we did simply by avoiding the reality of it.

As in many other cases, beginning with Adam and Eve’s, this is where the enemy steps in and reassures us that we are in the right and God is in the wrong.

As hard as it may be, looking a problem or sin in the face is our best course of action. When we do there are a few things that happen. First, we can confront it and ourselves in truth. Second, it takes some of the wind out of the sails of a big problem or big sin. It lets us see it for what it is. Not something insurmountable. If we will work with God and not against Him. If we will confess and turn from our sins, God is there to accept us.

While we may avoid God, He never avoids us.
