Be still and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10a)
When was the last time you were still?
No, I mean really still. Think about it. Search your mind, find a time. You may find that remembering when is hard to do.
Our world is not still and it calls us into constant motion, constant distraction. I know I have written about this often in these devotionals, but know that I have because it is so very important.
Too often we think to be still we need to go off to some mountain top experience. That would be nice, but who has the time? No, God is looking for us to be still in the moment, right where we are. He is not looking for us to come seeking Him on some mountain top, because He is already with us every moment. We just have to tune in.
And tuning in starts with being still and silent. Remember, God is close as our heart, and what does it take for us to hear our heart? Stillness and silence.
Stillness and silence are skills we have to cultivate. We have to separate ourselves from our phones, our computers, our TV’s and those around us so that we can be more intimate with God.
It is in these times where we can hear God the loudest.
