The Harbor You Long For

27 they reeled and staggered like a drunkard,
and all their skill was useless.
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.
30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.
Then he guided them to the harbor they longed for. (Psalm 107:27-30 CSB)

Our worlds can often be places of great upheaval and stormy weather. With relationships, health, work or personal struggles many things come our way every day that must be dealt with. But it does not have to be dealt with alone.

The harbor you seek is not with another person, not in a healthy body, not in a new job and not in what ever personal nirvana you believe you need. All of these things are passing away. They are temporary. Only a relationship with Christ, accepting the Spirit in and turning to our loving Father is eternal.

We too often believe that the harbor we seek can be fulfilled in some thing, someone or some place, but that respite or safety is only temporary. Because, like it or not, beyond every mountain is another mountain. Life is chock full of mountains and valleys. Some hard to climb, some grandiose experiences, some deep and dark valleys and some verdant fields. This is the way of the world.

Only in God do we find the lasting harbor we long for.
