A Fervent Call To Prayer

16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. 17 Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its fruit. (James 5:16-18 CSB)

We have a very effective habit of distancing ourselves from the problems of the world around us. However, I personally believe that our world has gotten so bad in the past few years that it is hard to distance from our national problems.

I do not care what side of the political fence you might be on, we are facing catastrophic times. And, I am sorry, but we are bringing this upon ourselves and we can no longer turn a blind eye.

But this is not a call for civil disobedience, it is a fervent call to prayer.

The prayer of a righteous person has a very powerful effect. But few of us are righteous and even fewer still believe their prayers, especially on a national level, will be answered. But God is watching, and He is waiting to see if His people will come together in fervent prayer. Will we set aside our petty differences and be united in a call to God to heal us? I am afraid if we do not stop down now and do this, we are lost.

Our prayer has more impact that we know, even when it seems they are not being answered. God simply works differently than we think, His ways are higher than ours. But He is waiting for us to do our part.

Pray daily for God to heal our nation and pray that we mend our ways. The average lifespan of an empire or society is about 250 years. America is 246 years old in 2022. And as the Spanish philosopher George Santayana is credited with saying “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
