Humanness

12 “Come and have breakfast,” Jesus told them.  (John 21:12a CSB)

It is easy to forget when we consider the incredible sacrifice our Lord, the creator of all heaven and earth made for us, that he was human.

He ate breakfast (probably lunch and dinner too), had concerns that were probably worldly, and dealt with other mundane daily task. He had to if he was going to relate to us fallen humans.

I love the humanness of this first part of John 21:12. Remember too, He made this statement after the resurrection. So, after such a momentous act, he was conducting the mundane task of sitting down to a meal with the disciples. And the end of that verse gives us some insight into what the disciples were thinking, ”None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord.”

Here, the risen Savior has just prepared and is sitting down for a meal with his closest friends. In fact in the next verses he walks back Simon Peter’s three denials. It is a very touching part of scripture.

Least we forget, our Lord knows our humanness. And because He does he can intimately relate to our every human feeling and state. Even our need to sit down to breakfast with Him each morning.
