7 You have put more joy in my heart…
Joy should be, but is not a natural state for most of us. I have known a few people who I can say are truly joyful all the time. I marvel at them and their ability to be so. I had an aunt who was this way. Even through the loss of three of four children and her husband, she found joy in life. She too was a pillar of strength and faith.
There is much we can learn from those who’s faith is so strong and belief so deep that even loss does not bring them down for long. These are the people who have learned to truly live their faith. They are living joy.
The best most of us hope for are times of happiness. But it is here where we deceive ourselves. In our pursuit of momentary happiness we miss the deeper, more meaningful potential of joy. But to achieve this we must put our hope in something that is beyond this world. There is nothing here we can center our joy upon that does not have the ability to let us down.
Living joy comes from living in Christ. Living a life where our entire expectations are set upon something not of this world which Christ overcame. Our sights are set higher upon our heavenly home and Christ merciful nature.
