Abba, Father

15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba,[a] Father!” (Romans 8:15 CSB)

Many of the devotions I write have to do in some way with fear and difficulties in this life. I do not wish to sound like a broken record but I encounter so many who are struggling with something in this life. Thus, these are meant as an encouragement.

But when encouragement falls short and help does not seem to be on the way, we must learn to cry out, “Abba, Father”!

Fear seems to be ever present in this world. And why not, it is one of the enemy’s favorite tools. If he can get us so wrapped up in our fear that we cannot see a way out he can lead us into soul crushing depression. He makes us lose hope.

But this is not how God wants us to live. Yes, we are living in a fallen world that cries out for Jesus’ return. But he wants us to face our fears straight on, to stand with the Spirit to hold us up. He wants us to cry out, ”Abba, Father” knowing that it is He who delivers us and He who comforts us. Possibly not out of our situation, but through it.

We are adopted sons and daughters to the Heavenly Father who loves us deeply.
