Time Aside

27 “…You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and every kind of impurity.” (Matthew 23:27 CSB)

Have you truly considered what your life looks like if the varnish of what you portray to others were stripped away. If people saw what was truly on the inside?

No, we normally really do not want to look that deeply inside. We have even begun to fool ourselves by only looking on the surface.

This is why so few people deal well now with silence and solitude. These things give rise to what lies deep within. But it is truly only within the silence and solitude where we can strip away the whitewash to see what needs attention within. To begin to clear out the old bones of the dead and wash away the impurity.

Start with your bible and five minutes. Read a single passage of scripture and then let it sink in and just sit with it for that five minutes. Ask God to allow His Word to speak to your heart, so that you might hear the message He has in it strictly for you.

If you can increase this time of silence and solitude, meditating upon God’s word by a minute or two a day you can regain yourself. You can begin to see yourself and the world differently. Most importantly you can begin to order your day around these moments of silence and solitude and begin to reap the benefits of just being with God.

I wish I could spend hours in prayer and solitude but I learned long ago that I needed multiple small times in my day. Times to get my head straight and to wash away what invariably builds up within. Taking time aside with just God and myself.
