By the Hand

8 My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me. (Psalm 63:8)

In ancient times, the right hand had many meanings. It was typically the sword hand and it too held meaning as the righteous hand.

This is not to place right handed people above left handed, it is just more common and was used to signify deeper meaning. Thus, the many references to the right hand in scriptures holds special meaning.

Today, when we take someone by the hand, it has special meaning as well. Whether it is in marriage, in guiding a child or leading people, to take one by the hand means we are taking special interest in them, guiding them.

God does this daily through the indwelling of The Spirit. We are taken by the hand and upheld. We are given the chance for our soul to cling to God in good times and bad. More so, we are shown by the special nature of our relationship with the Son, the Spirit and the Father and how they are there for us each moment of the day.

When we are older others may have to take us by the hand to lead us through our latter years. Isn’t it comforting to know that the Father is there to take us by the hand today.
