8 “Lord,” the centurion replied, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8:8 CSB)
The story of the centurion’s servant runs from Matthew 8:5-13 and speaks to the strength of faith.
The centurion commanded soldiers and slaves. He knew that if he commanded a thing to be done, that it would get done. However, more than likely, his orders were carried out out of fear.
Yet, when he came to Christ he knew that what Christ commanded he did out of love.
You have to believe that this act not only showed great faith but changed the centurion.
When actions are taken out of love rather than fear, there is great power displayed. Often love is a vulnerable place where fear is seen as a place of power. Yet, the reality is there is much greater power in love.
We believe that we must command with an iron fist, but this can only go so far. People respond to kindness and love far better and continue to respond far longer.
