The Entire Fullness

Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ. For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily[a] in Christ, (Colossians 2:8-9 CSB)

We are experiencing an almost unprecedented time where many deceptive ideas are taking hold in society. Ideas that are clearly not scriptural and are causing people to be lead astray into different philosophies that can be destructive. And we who adhere to scriptural teaching regarding right and wrong are seen as intolerant, backwards even.

If this is the case, then this is who we should be. And it should be noted that it is less a lack of tolerance and more a reliance upon God’s teaching and scriptural truth. Scripture speaks too of those who would take only the portions of the Bible they want to use and discard the more difficult teachings. They wish to bend the Word to their wills and not bend themselves to the will of God.

I understand that this strict adherence to scripture is not popular. It has even been twisted within some churches to be but a shadow of what it should be. But we must rely upon the Word of God as it stands and not as how we want to manipulate the pieces we like.

No, ours is a faith based wholly upon Christ, for the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ.
