Your Calling & Election

10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble. (2 Peter 1:10 CSB)

How do you go about confirming your calling and election?

Let’s look at these in reverse. To confirm our election is to recognize the changes in our lives when we come to belief in Christ. Our salvation should mean that we are thinking and acting differently. These changes and their outward reflection in our actions will continually confirm our election as a believer. It is the fruit of our walk in Christ.

Calling can be a bit harder to confirm and we often overcomplicate trying to understand our calling. A calling can be as simple as living a life worthy of our salvation and leading our families to something as complicated at becoming a missionary.

I know I struggled with my calling for a long time before God led me to how I could live out His plan for my life. Even now I tend to look for more on a regular basis, but I believe that this continual searching for more in God is also a way we confirm our calling. We must be acting upon that calling every day in some fashion.

Thus, confirming our calling and election is simply living a life striving ever for God and keeping our eyes toward heaven. However, it is a continual act.
