22 For in my inner self[a] I delight in God’s law, 23 but I see a different law in the parts of my body,[b] waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body. (Romans 7:22-23 CSB)
Do you find yourself doing the exact thing that you do not wish to do?
“The devil made me do it“, used to be a common phrase I heard. Today not so much. I think we now know that it is the sin within us. That or we have accepted the evil that exist in the world and no longer attribute it to the enemy. Which is exactly what he wants.
Yes, some of what we do can be attributed to the enemy at work in the world. But much of it can be attributed to the sin that is present within us. There is a continual war being waged within, between our sin nature and God’s law we are to live by.
We must focus upon the inner self and delight in God’s law so that we take our “members” captive in both thought and deed. Only when we do this daily, dying to our old self and living for God can we hope to win the battle within.
