18 He believed, hoping against hope, so that he became the father of many nations[a] according to what had been spoken: So will your descendants be.[b]19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered[c] his own body to be already dead(since he was about a hundred years old) and also the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver in unbelief at God’s promise but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 because he was fully convinced that what God had promised, he was also able to do. (Romans 4:18-21 CSB)
How do you react to the seemingly impossible?
In our scripture today Abraham had been promised that he would be the father of many nations at a time when he and his wife were well beyond bearing years. So this seemed an impossible thing, however Abraham’s faith grew stronger. He did not doubt God’s promise. He walked on through life “convinced that what God promised, he was able to do”.
When we are faced with the seemingly impossible does our faith grow or does it shrink? Do we look to the promises of God and become convinced that He truly has our best interest in mind? Or do we begin to doubt and allow our faith to waver and our hope wane?
I think when we reach heaven, if God gives us a view into our lives, we will see how many times our doubt kept us from blessings. How often we snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. Just how many times God wanted to fulfill our dreams but WE got in the way.
Our God is a god of the impossible. If our plans are only human size plans, well then, we will only have human size results. We need plans that are far beyond our capability to give God room to work.
