1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe[a] in God; believe also in me. (John 14:1 CSB)
When we choose to believe in Christ we can let go of our worldly troubles, even though that is so very hard to do. As Christians we know we can lay our troubles at Christ feet. As Humans we tend to just pick them up again.
We are concerned that we are losing control when we lay them down and walk away. When, in fact, we never had control to begin with. Control is one of the great human fallacies. We lead lives where we think we are in control, right up to the point where something happens that is outside of our control.
I have dealt with both anxiety and depression. I have counseled and consoled people with both. In both cases there is a root that begins with a lack of control. This lack of control begins with a subtle rolling down the train tracks without the ability to stop the train and typically ends with the train in “full head of steam careening down the hill” mode.
The enemy, of course, dog piles any small thing and works to snowball it as much as his abilities allow. And fear of the unknown is typically the greatest concern.
So how do we let go? How do we just sit back and do nothing. Well, first of all, doing nothing is also not a good idea. Trust and motion are our best friends. Trust in God to work all things to His good will and motion on our behalf so that we do not get frozen with fear.
Talk to a friend, help others, pray, pray, pray.
In the end, know that God has this.
