Independence is a hallmark of the American life. Take that down to the Texas level and it is even more so. However, the interesting dichotomy is that if you take that down to small town Texas you see people relying upon each other. I suspect this is the same across the nation in small towns.

You see, small town living is community living. At least it was when I grew up.

And community living is living knowing that we need others. We walk along the road of life together. 

However in this life how can we ever hope to come together if we never meet? Our community begins when we come together in meeting and begin to learn what it is to serve and be served. To understand that life was not meant to be lived alone. 

We need this community, this communion, with both God and others.
