3 Honor belongs to the person who ends a dispute,
but any fool can get himself into a quarrel. (Proverbs 29:3 CSB)
My father did not suffer fools, I am much the same way. I learned early on in life that picking a fight was easy, extracting oneself from it was more difficult. Through the years I also realized that there was much more to be gained by working through difficulties than trying to argue or punch my way through them.
In both my personal and business life I also realized at 6’6” there was a natural air of intimidation about me. So I worked to utilize humor and my good nature to offset my size. Even so, it has not been easy and in many cases I had to check my attitude at the door.
However, what I found was this, if I strove to always be respectful that would typically win people over. Even in cases where I had to be adamant about stating my case, a respectful nature and kindness could divert most arguments.
In this way I did not have to remain passive to argue a point if I would not allow my emotion to be involved. Continually keeping a respectful stance allowed me to be firm without undermining another.
