Do Wrong to Make Right?

And why not say, just as some people slanderously claim we say, “Let us do what is evil so that good may come”? Their condemnation is deserved! (Romans 3:8 CSB)

Scripture speaks of how God can change something bad in our lives into something good. However, we should not be searching for the bad so that God can do good. No, God would much rather us do what is right so that our faith can be strengthened by the good we are doing.

Much like when this scripture was written, there is a cyclical argument about how God can turn the evil in our lives into good. And if so, then why don’t we just go ahead and do what we want, even if it is evil, so that God can be manifest more in our lives through how he can change it into something good.

First and foremost, we are testing God. Second, we are trying to act upon the desires of our flesh by justifying that God can turn it into something spiritual. How can this thinking ever stand up?

No, we should seek first to do what is right both scripturally and morally, and in doing so allow our good works to stand for themselves in the eyes of God and man.

Our job is not to make more work for God, but to come along side the Spirit and do good in this world. God already has to clean up after us enough as it is, even when we are trying to do good.

When we practice good works and fulfilling our God given role, we then show God’s grace to the world through our actions without need for correction.
