Come to Terms

21 Come to terms with God and be at peace;
in this way[a] good will come to you.
22 Receive instruction from his mouth,
and place his sayings in your heart.
23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be renewed. (Job 22:21-23a CSB)

A co-worker is in the process of trying to buy a new house. Part of this is all of the paperwork that must be competed. A bigger part is coming to terms on the purchase price. And right now he is having to come to terms with just how crazy the market for homes has become.

All of life is about coming to terms. Meaning, it is about learning how to deal with the various aspects of life that we encounter day to day. We are continually negotiating the “terms” of how we live.

The same is true with our faith life. We, first, come to terms with the fact that Christ atoning blood was the terms for our forgiveness. Then begins the hard work of coming to terms with all of the other sinful aspects of our life. While Christ blood has atoned for us we must negotiate our part of living a life of faith. This means coming to terms with God so that we may be at peace.

The interesting part of this negotiation is that God always gives us our best deal. While we spend far too much time negotiating the terms of how we want to live. This often means that we are trying to balance our desire to continue to live in some sinful state, not wanting to give up the “fun” parts of our lives.

Oh that we would simply understand that God’s terms are the best terms.
