4 Their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
5 They have mouths but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell.
7 They have hands but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk.
They cannot make a sound with their throats.
8 Those who make them are[a] just like them,
as are all who trust in them. (Psalm 115:4-8 CSB)
Make no mistake many in the world today worship idols. Not just those graven images of other religions, but the more insidious religion of silver and gold.
It is easy to get wrapped up in nothing more than trying to make more. However, when all of our time and effort is put toward making more, being more successful, being more powerful, we are worshiping at the idol of silver and gold.
We are driven to do so more than we realize. Our world drives us to material want. The storage industry is booming because we all have too much stuff and yet we want ever more.
Have you ever asked your self, “if I had to walk away tomorrow with just what I could carry, what is most important to me, what would that be?”
Many throughout history have had to do just that. I think there is much we could learn from them.
Take an accounting today and really search your self, and your home. Are you worshiping at the idol of silver and gold?
