3 Trust in the Lord and do what is good;
dwell in the land and live securely.[a]
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act (Psalm 37:3-5 CSB)
This group of passages tends to get takeN out of context. People will pull out verse 4 and even then only read the second half of that verse.
God is not a genie. We do not rub our Bibles and expect to get three wishes.
God inspired scripture to be written and read in totality. Not to be picked apart so that we get to the “sale” content and discard the “terms and conditions.”
Our world has driven us to look at the Bible this way. As something to be picked apart for the parts we want to believe in.
So what “conditions” apply to the part of verse 4 we all what, which is for God to “give us our heart’s desires”?
Trust that He will do what is good.
Delight in the Lord.
Commit our ways to the Lord.
When we trust, delight and commit to the Lord we also find that the desires of our heart are His desires. We see our perspective change.
