2 My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous one. 2 He himself is the atoning sacrifice[a] for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2 CSB)
It is impossible not to sin. However, it is imperative that we try.
While salvation provides a path to forgiveness of sin, it is not meant as a “do what you want” card.
While we will sin while we are this side of heaven, it is imperative that we continually take our sinful nature in hand. Working diligently to keep our self from willful sin.
Sin really takes only two forms. It is either willful or it is not. We may sin by an act of omission or other involuntary action. Consider these as things we do without thinking.
But too often our sin is known and willful. We understand what we are doing is sinful but we act anyhow. This type of sin becomes habitual far too often and requires a constant and vigilant mindset to eradicate.
We must inventory our thoughts and actions, diligently working to keep ourselves from willful sin.
