8 Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance, (Luke 3:8 CSB – abridged)
When we repent, what does it look and feel like? Then what are the fruits of repentance?
First, what is repentance? When we have done wrong what is needed for us to be truly repentant? Well, first there is admittance of what we have done and acceptance of it as wrong. Then there is a change in behavior that accompanies our repentance. This is the act of repentance.
Second, there are the fruits of repentance where our desire for change meets up with our actions to change. Too often repentance is momentary and only goes through the steps of admittance and acceptance but our behavior does not change. The lasting fruits of repentance are not there to prove that we are truly repentant.
When sin becomes habitual it becomes ingrained in who we are. We must break this cycle and come to true repentance.
