Practice

19 For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do. (Romans 7:19 CSB)

Do you feel this way. I know I do. We seem to practice just the opposite of what we preach. But it is just that. It is a practice. To build right habits we must practice.

The excellent book by Charles Duhigg, “The Power of Habit” tells us that to break a bad habit we must replace it with a good habit. We must break its power over us and what we do by repetitively and actively swapping one practice for another, better practice.

By doing so we train both our body and our mind to react in a different way. We substitute one habit for another.

We should also search our hearts for our motives behind our habits. Are we doing them for God or for self?
