15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:15-17 NKJV)
This entire passage provides us a design for having peace in our lives and with our relationship with God. I especially like the first of verse 16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,”.
The idea here is that the word of Christ, which is scripture, should not be something lightly read. It is something that we must read and internalize deeply so that its wisdom becomes a rich wellspring. It provides not only guidance but wisdom on how to live out our days and how to interact with others. Verse 17 goes on to tell us to allow this richness to be manifest in whatever we do in word or deed. Thus, the internal wisdom becomes an external act focused upon God but reaching out to others.
Our faith life must both dwell richly within us and be a wellspring for others through our actions. We are not meant to simply hold onto the Word, but to speak and live it outwardly.
Reflect on: Consider today how God’s Word dwells richly in your life and in your interactions.
