Being The New Creation

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

It can be that we lose that feeling of being a new creation in Christ. The old sinful man (or woman) seeks to exert its will over our lives and we may slip back into old ways. It used to be called “backsliding” but I think now we know it is just our human nature that makes us this way.

Let’s face it. Old habits are comfortable. They are like a well worn pair of shoes. They slip right on and we are off and running. Running toward habits that we know are self destructive and yet we run all the faster. We simply want the ease of doing of following the broad path and not the difficulty of following the narrow path.

However, if we have truly let Jesus into our lives, we do this and then feel out of sorts. Life is not easy this way, it is hard. Guilt and remorse haunt us and we question ourselves. This is the conviction of the Spirit, and be of good cheer, it tells us that He is there pointing the right way.

Reflect on: Is your “new creation” feeling a bit old and tired. Maybe it is a good time to get it back out, polish it up and put it back on.
