30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. (Acts 8:30-31 NKJV)
I read a lot of both commentaries and listen to a lot of preaching and teaching on scriptures. I also believe scripture where it says that one must believe before some of the mysteries of what is written there is unlocked. Meaning that we must have a belief in God and rely upon the Spirit within to provide guidance and understanding.
I have heard so many times from unbelievers that scripture does not make sense, is contradictory or is just a group of stories. Once you come to belief and do a deep enough study, none of those comments hold water. The scripture is God breathed and provides a deeper understanding of both God and life. But we must be open to both the Word and to the fact that the scriptures must be studied in totality. Too often scripture is taken out of context, providing only a piece of the overall study. Do not rely upon your interpretation alone.
Reflect on: Your view of scripture and the messages it conveys to you through the Spirit.
