11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11 NKJV)
There are two spirits that contend with man; his own spirit and, if he has come to belief in Christ, the Spirit of God which lives in those saved. The two should strive to live in unison, the human spirit taking direction from God’s Spirit. But we are fallen humans whose spirit is one that is often contrite, prideful and desires its own way.
We may well get to know those we call friends or acquaintances, but we rarely truly know what goes on inside of them, with their spirit. Many people put on a facade that belies how they truly are. We cannot fully know God either, thus, we must rely upon the Spirit to bring God’s word and guide to our lives. We must also pray and read scripture to know Him better.
It is only in our striving with God that we hope to truly know His plan for our lives. And in that which we do not know, the Spirit provides gentle nudges in the right direction.
Reflect on: How you are striving to know God’s Spirit better and how you reflect that in your own spirit.
