Little or Much

18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ (Luke 12:18 NKJV)

I look today at the ever increasing cost of living and often wonder where it will end. It has to slow at some point or people will no longer be able to live. My children now both have children and are trying to make ends meet each month. My wife hopes to retire next year and we have to look to make that work financially. It is all quite consuming if we are honest.

Then there are those who have been able to store up much wealth and can look at life quite differently. But are they happier? Are they better off?

While you may say, “Yes, financially they are”, that may not tell the whole story. I often see many of these people living with great anxiety over what might happen with their wealth or their lives. This just goes to show that whether we have much or have little, the anxiety of living bears upon us all.

But why? Are we not told in scripture that God will care for us? Have many of us not lived through difficult times and seen God’s providence throughout?

Reflect on: How God has provide and will continue to do so, whether you have little or have much.
