1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course[a] of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.[b] (Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV)
Do you realize that when you came to belief in Christ you were set apart, sanctified?
Well, it’s true. God chose you out of this world to be a child of God and you, in kind, chose Him to be. Your Heavenly Father. This is a wonderful and everlasting covenant. And while we still may be prone to sin we are to live a sanctified life, putting away the things of this world and looking to our great reward.
This can seem like a lot to people not of the faith; prince of the power of the air, spirit that works in the sons of disobedience. But it is a theology that we must accept. Sanctification sets us apart but does not mean that these powers and principalities are not still at work in this world and will not come against us. They will and we need Christ and the protection His love affords if we are to stand against them.
Reflect on: Exactly what sanctification means and looks like in your life. How is it changing you?
