16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. (John 15:16 ESV)
Today’s scripture has some interesting turn of phrases that we should consider. First, it is clear that Christ wanted us to know that we were chosen. Yes, we may have come to Christ for our salvation, but He chose us first and pulled us to Him.
Then, Christ appointed that we should go and bear fruit and that that fruit should abide. But what does that mean? The idea is that the good deeds and positive impact of our Christian life will remain and have lasting effects. It should signify a genuine and deep connection to Christ, where our actions and character continue to improve ourselves and influence others.
Reflect on: How Christ’s choice impacts your faith walk daily and how your fruit is abiding in your life.
