133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me. (Psalm 119:133 ESV)
What has dominion over you?
Have you ever really considered this question? What is it in your life that rules you and takes up too much of your time. Nothing rules me, you may say. But we all have a master.
This goes back to what we spend our time, talent and treasure on. Where we expend these things is what has dominion over us. Yes, there is a need for us to invest time and talent in the course of doing our job. But this too can have dominion over us and often does. If you spend every waking hour doing or thinking about your job, then it has dominion over you.
I do not mean to diminish the value or need for a job. My wife and I have very strong work ethics and spend a lot of time focused on our work. But I can be honest with myself and admit that often it takes president over everything else in my life.
But not to belabor just how much time we spend focused on our jobs, there are many other things in this life that can absorb us to the point of complete distraction. God should have our primary focus, and if we cannot say honestly and clearly that He does then we need to refocus our attention. If we allow Him to have complete dominion in our lives He too will be completely involved in our jobs as well.
