Not a Cover-up

16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants[a] of God. (1 Peter 2:16 ESV)

We have a freedom in Christ that can be almost too empowering. Knowing that Christ died for all of our sins, past, present and future provides us a great freedom. But if we use this freedom to sin more that is not what God had in mind.

I do not think any Christian, who truly believes, accepts Christ free gift of salvation and then wantonly goes out and decides to sin. We, however, can be lured away and find ourself repeating old sins that were habits of our previous life. We must fight against old sinful habits more stringently than we do anything else. Our mind has been conditioned, and our heart’s hardened to such sin through our habits. These must be replaced with good habits and godly thoughts and actions if we hope to keep them at bay.

Habit is one of the hardest things to break, Christian or not. We must purpose to live in the freedom of Christ not as a cover-up, but as the scripture says…as servants of God.
