8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (Ephesians 2:8 ESV)
Maybe one of the more difficult concepts for people to get past is the fact that God offers salvation as a gift. There is nothing we can do that can win us salvation other than accepting the free gift of God and believing that Christ is the son of God and died for our sins.
We expect to have to work for what we are given. I mean, that is how the world works. You do something to get something, but this is not your own doing.
You see, even when we were lost in darkness and sin, Christ came and gave Himself for us wretched sinners. He looked across the vastness of humanity past, present and future and had compassion. He saw our lost and wicked state and offered himself up to give us a life in eternity and he comes to each sinner who has accepted Him. He is a personal savior who desires nothing more than a relationship with each and every one of us. And that relationship should change us!
How incredibly amazing is it that the God of eternity wants a personal relationship with us!
