6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (1 John 1:6 ESV)
Do we talk the talk but not walk the walk?
Depending upon your world view you can see either Christianity as something to be admired or something seen as hypocritical. Many have been “church hurt” and reject Christianity, or any religion, because they have experienced the sinful people who infest the church. I do not call them this because I see myself or anyone as better, because we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Without Christ none of us would be worthy, yes, even those who infest the church.
You may think me harsh with my words, but I have witnessed and have acted in a hypercritical way. It is nearly impossible to live this life and not do so from time to time. We can work to live out the ways of Christ, but we are fallen humans in a fallen world. It is no excuse, it simply is our nature and one we must work moment by moment to overcome.
The key to this is to not exist (walk) in the darkness we wish to avoid, but we practice the truth all of the time. We need to put every thought and action through the filter of God’s truth. Without it we will walk in darkness and not be of the light.
