My Brothers Keeper

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4 ESV)

We were not put here to focus only upon our vain desires and pursuits. No, we were put here to look after one another.

I am not always great at this. I get too focused on my life and what I have going on and do not spend enough time in service to or concerned for others. I have recently had quite a few friends or acquaintances who have been out of work or ill. I try to keep up with them to make sure that they are ok and see if there is anything I can do to help them. But then weeks go by and I have gotten busy and forgotten to reach out. I need to do better.

We are not an island unto ourselves. Even though I tend to be a pretty solitary person, I have a Christian duty to others. We cannot just let time slip by us and loose touch, not being concerned for one another. Joblessness or sickness can be a very lonely and highly stressful time in a person’s life. We need to come alongside one another in these times and shore each other up.

We need to be our brothers (and sisters) keepers.
